In short. HPE has moved the ProLiant line to the Gen12 generation with Intel Xeon 6 processors. Three things change for the buyer: more cores and memory channels per socket, a new generation of iLO management with stronger firmware protection, and reworked service mechanics. Waiting for Gen12 makes sense if the workload is bound by cores or memory; for ordinary branch and office workloads Gen11 remains the better buy — the DL320 Gen11 is 41 000 000 UZS, the DL360 Gen11 40 000 000 UZS and the DL380 Gen11 49 000 000 UZS.

What changes in Gen12
A generation change at HPE is never only about processors. It usually brings a new management controller, different backplanes and cables, updated power supplies and sometimes a new drive form factor. The practical conclusion for anyone with an existing estate: spares and components rarely interchange across generations, and that belongs in inventory planning.
Cores and memory
Xeon 6 is split into two lines: processors with performance cores for general workloads and databases, and processors with efficiency cores, physically more of them per socket, aimed at containers and web workloads. Choose by workload profile, not by generation number.
The second change is a higher memory channel count per socket. That makes the "fill channels, not slots" rule stricter still: reaching the rated bandwidth takes more modules than on Gen11. A Gen12 build with half its channels populated can lose to a properly configured previous-generation machine at a noticeably higher price.
And the thing most often forgotten: virtualisation licences are counted per core. A server with twice the cores per socket costs twice as much in licences even if half of them sit idle.
Management and firmware security
The new management controller continues the hardware root of trust line: the firmware signature is verified at every power-on, and a tampered image simply will not boot. For organisations with supply chain security requirements that is the main argument for the generation change.
A practical detail independent of generation: remote graphical console and virtual media are available only with the advanced iLO licence. If the server sits in another city, budget for it up front — without it reinstalling the operating system means sending an engineer.
Wait for Gen12 or take Gen11
| Situation | Decision |
|---|---|
| File server, domain, 1C for 20–50 users | Gen11 — the platform will not be a third loaded |
| Virtualisation of 5–15 machines | Gen11; spend the difference on memory and SSDs |
| Workload bound by cores per socket | Gen12, with licences costed over the full term |
| Analytics, large databases, memory sensitivity | Gen12 with every channel populated |
| Strict firmware protection requirements | Gen12 |
The logic is the same as choosing between one and two sockets: cost total ownership with licences, not the hardware price. The full reasoning is in our DL320 Gen11 review.

Questions and answers
How does ProLiant Gen12 differ from Gen11?
Intel Xeon 6 processors with more cores and memory channels per socket, a new management controller generation with stronger firmware signature verification, and reworked service mechanics. Spares and components mostly do not interchange between generations.
Should I wait for Gen12 or buy Gen11 now?
For a file server, a domain, 1C and ordinary virtualisation of 5–15 machines, Gen11 remains the better buy: the platform will not be loaded anyway. Waiting for Gen12 makes sense when the workload is genuinely bound by core count or memory bandwidth.
What are Xeon 6 P-cores and E-cores?
Two lines within one generation: P-cores are performance cores for general workloads and databases; E-cores are efficiency cores, more of them per socket, aimed at dense container and web workloads.
Is Gen12 available in Tashkent?
Supplied to order, with lead time and price on request. From stock we hold the Gen11 line: the DL320 at 41 000 000 UZS, the DL360 at 40 000 000 UZS and the DL380 at 49 000 000 UZS.
