The Dell PowerEdge R660 is a dual-socket 1U rack server from the sixteenth PowerEdge generation. Inside it is the same class of machine as the 2U R760: 4th and 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 32 DDR5 slots and a PCIe Gen5 bus, just in a chassis half the height. It is built for dense virtualisation, databases and analytics where every rack unit has to deliver maximum compute.

The 10SFF chassis is the largest 2.5-inch backplane offered for this model: ten front bays supporting SAS4, SATA and NVMe drives. It suits an all-flash virtual machine store or an NVMe database with no external array. Compared with the lighter R660xs, the base R660 has twice the memory slots, takes processors up to 64 cores and E3.S drive cages, and can be ordered with direct liquid cooling.
